In our rearrangement after Giri left the band in 2001 and Bendy took over the role on bass, we were looking for a new drummer.
I found a very interesting ad on the internet, where Dennis was looking for a band.
Our band Gloom had recorded our demo with 5 songs, but with Giri on bass and Bendy on drums. With that in hand, I contacted Dennis and asked if we could invite him to an audition in our rehearsal room in Værløse.
What we met was an IT guy, a bit smart to look at, but a man who exuded confidence and surplus. As I remember it, he had a folder or paper with him, where he had noted the tempo and course of all the numbers he would test us on in the rehearsal room.
It was quite an experience. I had never heard our numbers played so well before. I especially remember “Cry Out” as being completely magical. Dennis came and just had his shit together. Despite the fact that he played on an old rehearsal room drum set that hadn’t received love in decades. Dennis can play on pots and make it sound like a million.
What made him say yes to come to the audition, I only have a small idea of (Malene’s voice) but what a boost our band got with one.
I immediately felt that now was the time, now we were ready to test the world. I wanted to prove to Dennis that it was a totally right decision to join Gloom.
Gigs should be booked, numbers should be written, website, posters, flyers, you name it.
Dennis was not just the perfect drummer. His engagement was enormous and he was always full of praise and had wild confidence that we would go all the way. He believed wholeheartedly that the world should just hear us, then we would become rockstars.
His IT background also benefited the band. Together we built a cool website, and his skills in team building also made us aware that we should conquer the world as a band together. That means we made a band agreement where our works were shared equally among us. That would reduce inequality when we became stars. Clear surplus thinking.
Dennis’ style was a match. He was technically superior and he could play anything. I never heard him in trouble, never.
He became a supreme friend and role model.
Even though he now lives in the US, we still have a close bond, and we know we can always find support with each other. A friend for life.
